The outlook for HVAC Jobs remains strong, as it has been for several years. The heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems built into our homes and offices, are taken for granted – until they develop problems and slowly stop. There are many types of HVAC jobs available to take care of the systems.
An HVAC 
installer takes care of the installation of heating and air conditioning equipment on both residential areas and commercial sites. The technician must have the knowledge and expertise to do the installation, repair, and maintenance of various types of HVAC systems. They work with various clients at different locations, which require quite a bit of traveling as well. As such, a good communication skill and service orientation is to be expected.
HVAC service technicians regularly encounter work area hazards like burns, electrical shock, and extreme temperatures during different seasons. During winter and summer seasons, they may have to diagnose problems related to heating and cooling systems, which expose them to extreme weather conditions. Most often, the technicians are required to work at odd hours, and in odd weather. HVAC jobs are demanding, but very rewarding.
Commercial and Industrial Opportunities
Commercial HVAC jobs might include tearing down, setting-up, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial and commercial heaters, chillers, and packaged air conditioning systems. Maintenance Technicians must provide routine cleaning of inside and outside coils, heat exchangers, burners, drain lines, etc. It is a health hazard to work in the dusty environment regularly and breathing protection equipment such be used. The one problematic area, which the technicians need to maintain regularly, is the dust collection system, which if not regularly maintained and emptied of dust, can cause a fire.
Moving over to the cooling and refrigeration part of HVAC jobs, regular handling of coolants can be a risky proportion, as they need to safeguard these coolants from being released to the environment and from inhaling them as well. HVAC jobs require the skills to do the combustion analysis of all combustible heating system and results verified. They also get involved in work to detect fault in a HVAC system using dynamic machine-tuning techniques.
Technical and Safety Skills Required
The technician’s general knowledge should include a good understanding of wiring, forced air systems, electrical power generators, diesel generators, and air compressor as well. It is not required all technicians too be specialized in all these areas. HVAC technician knowledge in heating and ventilation theory alongside his mechanical skills to handle repair work is an added asset. To be proficient in most HVAC jobs, the technician must have the skill to read and create wiring schematics, and think logically in a critical situation.
